The respective son and grandson of the great master artists Pablo Picasso and Paul Klee met for the first time at an exhibition in Switzerland called “a dream for art historians”. This is a first meeting for the heirs, but the renowned artists had met twice in their lifetimes.
Although the exhibit, which runs until September 26th, illustrates parallels in each artist’s creations, the organizers attempt to highlight the contrast between the two. Klee showed his outward esteem for Picasso in his work “Hommage to Picasso” in 1941 but his grandson is quick to add “Klee was filled with irony but Picasso’s work was something he took very seriously. It’s thought he was slightly afraid of Picasso’s influence.”
