Celebrating Joan Miro on His 118th Birthday [Video]


 
Today marks the 118th birthday of Catalan artist Joan Miro, a man viewed by the art world and collectors as one of the most important artists of the 20th century, and the precursor for much of modern art.

Now on view through September 11, Miro at Tate Modern is London’s first major retrospective of the artist’s works in nearly 50 years. In a video clip from the museum, you’ll see vintage footage of Miro at work, go behind the scenes at his home and studio, and hear what scholars have to say about one of history’s greatest artists.

Park West Gallery artist Leslie Lew is among the seven artists selected to show their works in a prestigious new exhibition.

In Keeping Time, now on view through September 5 at Albany International Airport, “Artists navigate the collective and individual mythology of nostalgia with an eye for its humorous, deceptive and often bittersweet nature.”

Lew’s signature “sculpted oils” depicting iconic imagery of American culture combined with Pop Art will surely delight the many travelers passing through the busy airport over the next several months...

Artist Dominic Pangborn Inspires Chicago Students

Goethe Elementary School welcomes 20 donated works, artist to inspire students, invigorate improvement projects

CHICAGO, IL – While it is said that art imitates life, parents and teachers at Goethe Elementary School in Logan Square hope it also inspires learning. The school is the recipient of 20 works with an approximate retail value of $20,000, donated by Park West Gallery, which was on display when artist Dominic Pangborn visited students on Monday, April 11, 2011.

“We serve clients all across the country, including Chicago, and we are privileged to assist their communities through activities like these,” says Stoney Goldstein, Executive Vice President of Park West Gallery and Chicago resident. “Goethe is a wonderful example of how collaboration between schools, parents and the community breeds student success, and we hope that our contribution helps the school build on that success...”

WWJ/CBS Detroit was in attendance last weekend as Park West Gallery celebrated its 42nd anniversary as a leading fine art dealer. 

The Park West Gallery Collectors Gala Event was held at The Henry hotel in Dearborn and featured world-famous artists Itzchak Tarkay, David Najar and Peter Max.

Ringling College of Art and Design Annual Fundraiser Receives Major Contribution from Park West Gallery


Ringling College of Art and Design, Park West Gallery, Avant-GardePark West Gallery helps make dreams come true for students at nation’s top art college

Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, FL held its 14th annual scholarship fundraiser event, “An Evening at the Avant-Garde: Once Upon a Time,” on Saturday, March 26, 2011. As a major sponsor of this year’s event, Park West Gallery, now in its 42nd year as a leading fine art gallery, will help “make dreams come true” for Ringling students through its generous contribution to the school.

Park West Gallery is fulfilling its mission to promote art enrichment by providing Ringling with artwork for their Avant-Garde fundraiser. An eclectic mix of works by renowned contemporary artists Peter Max, Yaacov Agam and others has been donated to the college from the Park West Gallery collection. Some of the works may be added to Ringling’s permanent collection and used as teaching tools for students; others were auctioned at Avant-Garde, with proceeds going to benefit student scholarships...
